De-Cluttering My Studio ..

Hello my dear friends,

it is said that after chaos comes the calm and I can only hope it will in the case of my studio.

I had fallen into a bad habit of not organizing things properly anymore but at times just putting everything into it where ever there was space. (too much stuff?) It wasn't that bad but I found myself buying some supplies that I already had and not being able to find some other things I was looking for, which I knew I had and that's when I said ...

 'Enough!'.

And that is what I am doing since about 4 days now. (I wish I had taken photos before I started pulling everything apart but I didn't because I hadn't planned to start when I did.)  Again Michaels came to the rescue with having an amazing sale on 'photo' boxes which I took advantage of for this project. My ambition is to give my studio a super makeover maybe even including painting the room.

Let the chaos begin!

As you can see I actually made much more mess once I started and it got worse before it got better believe me. Silly me just went for it and pulled everything out at once instead of a little at a time and the chaos grew in size and moved into my bedroom too.

See that box? ... It's been up here since some time now with another smaller one that I have already taken down. I thought I knew what was exactly in them until I opened them up. It was a little surprised to see what was inside those boxes because it was things I had created even before I had even my blog Todolwen and just as I started to take a liking to altered art and mix media ~ that was over three years ago now.

The big box was filled with so many things and I had actually forgotten that I had made some of them.

It was filled with ...

... clipboards that were decorated ...

... and wooden blocks too.

I had made book marks ...

... and little bags filled with butterfly confetti.

I even made cards using prints ...

... of vintage photos with old book pages or music sheets.

The last thing I found in the large box was ...

... little crochet baby hats.

But I wasn't done yet because I had the smaller box to open ...

... in which I found my teacup candles that I had made over three years ago.

Last but not least ...

... one of my little Todolwen stickers I created using card and doubles sided tape.

I was happy when I looked at all these creations and to then realize that I have come farther than I thought I would with what I do.

I am sure there will be more little surprises along the way of organizing my studio which will make it more fun and a little exciting too. I am not so sure how I am going to share my progress with all you lovely bloggers just yet ~ either step by step or as one post when everything is done. I will have to think about it but there will be other things that I will be sharing in the mean time here on Todolwen.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting me today!

I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind.

Have a peaceful and creative day.
Yours,

Karen B.

  2. I agree that when doing a big clean, a bigger mess is created before it gets better. And isn't it fun to make discoveries of items that you had forgotten about. Good luck on the re-organization!

  3. Remember the 80/20 rule -- 80% of the effort gets 20% of the result! But oh boy, is it ever worth it when it finally gets finished. Have the same sort of problem here and am anxious to see your results.
    Cheers.

  4. Well Karen, you have inspired me to get my office/sewing/scrapbook room organized. Lord, it's going to take a while.

  5. That's the way to organize, IMHO - haul everything out and start from scratch. Make a mess that gets messier then whittle away at organizing. Best wishes!

  6. I have been reorganizing my craft room too and it is fun to read of your progress. You have some new things to list in your etsy store or use in new creations - in the future of course after you are re-organized. I would love to see step by step progress as that will keep others of us encouraged and progressing in our organizing. I agree with Lorrie take it all out them and then put it all back that way you get a handle on what you have. All like things together is my new motto! Have a creative day organizing.

  7. Oh it looks like my creative space. I allways try to organice me, but it did not function very well ;-).
I would call it "kreatives Chaos" .
Let us have a look from time to time, how it is going with your studio.
Maybe you can give some tipps afterwards to help me :-).

  14. That's my modus operandi as well Karen - take it all out... all of it, and then start discovering! Sometimes you just have to follow that urge, even when logic tells you there might be another way...

  17. I know that this was a old post for you, but for me you have given me some interesting idea’s for my bookmarks. I had a die set that I got in a grab bag but could no longer get the coordinating stamp set, to just cut out prints and use on my bookmarks. Thanks.
By the way I sign my stuff as Karen P. I will have to find a cute little stamp to go with it as you have.
