Once An Old Table Lighter ..

Hello my dear friends,

I am so excited to share my newest pincushion creation with you all of you lovely bloggers today!

Of course I couldn't hold myself back to work with one of my newest findings but I always seem to do so when I find something really special.

It was a little tough for me in the beginning to make the decision which way to go ~ either with a more traditional look using red or with a more subtle look and using off-whites and creams. In the end I chose to go more traditional by using a deep dark red velvet and taffeta. The fabrics were from a vintage dress that I had bought years ago and perfect for this piece. Once my mind was made up I didn't waste any time but gathered everything together that I wanted to use and then started to get to work. A few hours later and it was done ~ my newest pincushion creation was completed.

This old table lighter couldn't have been any better to work with. I actually think so far it might have been my best treasure to date! The only little 'flaw' this piece really has is that the top doesn't close completely but it is an old and lovely piece and after all it doesn't take away any of it's beauty and charm.

The lighter part just pulled out so easily and I then I was left with this ...

... a blank 'canvas' and all this canvas now needed was some 'paint'.

On the outside this little tarnished strawberry hasn't changed at all much. 

I just added some little white leather flowers and a collar made from the dark red taffeta.

The inside is a different story though ~ take a look!

I covered the inside of the lid with the dark red taffeta and it looks amazing.
Teeny, tiny white leather flowers embellish the inside of the lid and also the pincushion with a few vintage little pearls.

That my dear friends was my newest little pincushion creation which I have named ..

... 'Hidden Treasure'.

The perfect name in my eyes! ~ What do you think?

My Sweet Peas ..

Hello my dear friends,

I have been working a little more on the design of my fabric sweet peas these days to try and get them to where I would like them to be in my eyes. I think that slowly but surely I am getting closer to my vision and that is what I would like to share with you lovely bloggers today. 

I made some blossoms from a color of fabric that my daughter Ashleigh likes very much. It is a very nice shade of coral and the flowers look so lovely. I have also given my blossoms long stems where they now live happily in small groups together and I am very pleased about their new look and can't wait to continue with working on these and make more of them. I am also very excited to share the final design of them on Todolwen one day.

This is where I am right now ~ don't they look just so pretty?!

 

My ultimate goal is to hopefully create something like this ...

One day I would love to make something that is as beautiful as this gathering of sweet peas.

 I would have to dye my own fabric though because so far I have been able to find any fabric in these beautiful pastel colors in any fabric store I have been in. You never know, maybe one day I will actually do it and then you will find it here ... on Todolwen.

'Junking' Treasures ..

Hello my dear friends,

I had such a lovely day on my birthday.

I was spoiled over the entire day with too many beautiful gifts again and lovely little surprises and as always everyone was so sweet to me. A part of my day was spent out and about junking with my daughter Ashleigh, something we hadn't done in such a long time and it was so nice. Not only that but I was very fortunate to find some treasures too and one of them is just so amazing!

 I am a total lover of tarnished and tattered things and tarnished treasures were what I found.

A few pieces were what I would call 'your 'classic' findings which are little tarnished trays with and without stands and a tarnished little creamer ~ I always love finding this neat treasures.

A big smile came over my face when I saw this ...

... and then I saw double ... and I mean double.

I found a set of Seagull pewter candle stands in the shape of  tulips which are the matching pieces that are meant to go with the tulip candle snuffer ...

... which I had previously turned into pincushions.

I am so happy that I was finally able to find of a few of these beauties.

However my next finding I think is what it would be called the 'piece de résistance' and I am over the moon about it. It is a Evans table lighter in the shape of a strawberry. You read right ... a strawberry.

In it's earlier days (the 1940's) it might have looked like this and been covered in a coat of enamel, most probably the color would have been vibrant red but over the many years of it's life it was lost but that is so OK with me because just take a look at it now! 

Isn't is absolutely stunning?!

And take a look inside ~ see it really is a old table lighter!

 I have never before seen one this beautiful and so lovely and there was no way I was going to leave the store without it.

I had forgotten to share these two cute pieces were treasures that I had found a few weeks ago ...

... and they are little vintage egg cups ...

... so adorable!

I already have plans for most of these beautiful pieces, I just need to find the time to work on them and to do my little magic. Needless to tell you all what I am going to turn them into ... right?!
