A Few "New Old" Creations ...

Hello my dear friends,

it is always nice to try something new but I do enjoy making "old" things again too.

I have several unfinished projects in my studio these days and all in need of completion. One of them I re-found a little while ago. It was some of my sari silk nests that were hiding away in an old biscuit tin and with them were some of my singed edge roses.

Looking at it all I thought that it would be such a shame to get rid of everything and not do something with all of the bits and pieces from the old container. And I hate to waste things so I decided to work with what was inside that tin and today I am happy to say that I have a few old "new" creations to share with all of you.

When I first started to work on them I was very unsure if I liked what I was doing or not.

I had planned to use the pink nests with the pink roses but instead the flowers are now happily "growing" on the two off-white colored nests. But something just wasn't right. Something was missing ... something little which I ended up finding in a basket in my studio. It was off-white little stems of stamen. Added between the roses, they were exactly what was making me like the nests so much more and I now feel very content when I look at them. Just like I did with my very first nests like these, I used hemp fibers as the cushion for the wooden eggs to live in and that was all these two silk nests really need - no more, no less. One nest is a little smaller than the other but they both look so lovely in my eyes and have turned out quite pretty. They have a soft and delicate look to them as well. These actually might be the last sari silk nests that I will make but nothing is set in stone just yet.

And here are my two "newest" sari silk and hemp nests.

 I named them ...

 ..."Blooming In Pink"

This is the smaller one of the two nests, and it has 2 little wooden eggs living in it's midst.

And this is the larger one of the two. This nest has three little eggs happily living in it.

I honestly didn't think that they would end up looking this nice and I am happy I decided not to just empty the tin out and be done with what was inside it.

And I did more! Apart from the two off-white nests and pink flowers, there were a few more nests in the old biscuit tin, two bright pink ones and one pale brownish one and some more flowers. After putting a lot of thought in to what to do with them, I went to work and this is what the pink nests look like now!

Yes! ... I took them apart!

They just didn't work for me anymore. Not only did I take these two apart but I also turned nine other sari silk nests that I had made a few years ago and also not yet used, back into balls of sari silk ribbon and I am feeling so good about it. One day, I will find a project that they are made for!

Like I have said before, at times you just have to go back, take apart, undo and reuse!
It might be annoying at first but it might be the best thing to do in the end. Every time I had walked into my studio and saw all of the nests I was not happy with myself knowing they were sitting there unfinished. Now that I have made the decision to take them apart, I feel so much better and I am looking forward to working with this beautiful ribbon some time again. I have donated all of the other flowers that were in the old tin. This way they will hopefully be used by someone else when they are being creative.

And last but not least ...

... once I have enough time, I will be listing these two pretties for sale in my Etsy shop in cause anyone might be interested.

It is so nice that you have taken the time to visit me today, here at Todolwen. I hope you have enjoyed your short stay. Do come back again when you have a few spare moments and see what I have been up too.

I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind.

Have a peaceful and creative day.
