My Outdoor Project ~ Day 1

Hello my dear friends,

little did I realize how many weeds were living  in my riverbed and around my willow tree until yesterday.

I had decided it was time to start working on my outdoor project for this summer and it seemed to be a good day to do so, since it had rained the day before so the ground was soft. I didn't think of how hot and humid it would be so I didn't last very long. I was out there for I think 3 hours or just over and then had to stop because I was just too warm. I am not even sure if a big difference can be seen already in my before and after photos from my first day but I will share then with you anyways.

Before I started weeding ...

... and after.
OK ... you can see a difference after all there is at least that.

Again before ...

... 3 hours of hard work!
No ... doesn't look that much better on this side of the riverbed.

I am a little disappointed that I didn't get more done and I am hoping that I will be able to work on it in the next few days again but nothing is for certain yet. Our weather is really playing up ... it is hot and very humid and it rains almost every day here now and I must say I am not one for standing in the rain and weeding. I really didn't think that pulling weeds would be hard work ... well, I was wrong because it is and the real work hasn't even started yet which is removing the rock and replacing the landscaping fabric ... oh dear what have I let myself in for?!

I will keep you up to date with how things are going. I don't think that they will go as fast as I would like them to so I don't think I will be posting every day about this project. I am just hoping it will go at a good pace and well.

One good thing on the other hand the weather again has done for me ...

... it has made my yellow lilies bloom outside my kitchen window and they are looking so lovely.

And last but note least ...

I would like to say a huge 'thank you' to all of you that support me when I need it.
Thank you for all your kind words, thoughts and especially understanding when I made the decision about not posting free tutorials anymore on Todolwen.

I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind.

Have a peaceful and creative day,

Karen B.

  1. Vinegar will kill the weeds very nicely. There are a lot of natural weed killing options available on-line. They may save you a lot of labour in clearing that area in your yard.
    ~always enjoy your blog posts!

  3. The difference is becoming quite evident Karen, it's going to be beautiful when it'd done. I understand about the weather, the heat and humidity here in Michigan has been terrible over the last couple weeks, I can't wait for a break to get my gardens weeded, before they totally overtake and you can't tell the plants from the weeds!

  6. Absolutely you can tell the difference in the "before & after"!! I live on 5 acres and I use the following mixture (which you can double or triple and then put into your 1 gallon sprayer) to 1 gallon of hot water I mix 3 lbs of regular table salt & 1 tsp dawn dish soap. This kills even poison ivy/oak. But you have to wait before you plant in the area again (I use it on my long long long gravel driveway and on my rock garden area (without plants) and along our entire fence line. It's super cheap and all natural!!
