A Little Road Trip ..

Hello my dear friends,

it had been some time since we done a little road trip and partly it is because I worry to much these days about what can go wrong and the fact that I HATE driving on busy highways doesn't help. (I almost never drive on the 401 here in Ontario, it is crazy in places!) But yesterday we did head out, my husband, my daughter Caylagh and I.

Where to? ...

... to beautiful Michigan, USA!

I can't tell you how excited I was whilst we were crossing the border bridge between Canada and the States. You know it was one of those things that you cross of as achieved in your little book. I was driving so my camera had to stay in my bag but my daughter Caylagh took some photos for me.

We didn't go too far, just to Port Huron and Fort Gratiot and I was so OK with that. What did we do? ... Shopping! (This first time we didn't venture out of the area of the 24th Ave. where everything was located that we wanted to see but hopefully the next time we will.)

Can you believe it ... I had only three things on  my shopping list and that was it but all of these things are not available in Canada for some reason.

I needed more drop clothes from Lowes. I had bought some from our local store a year ago and turned them into curtains for our dinning room and family room but then they stopped selling them and other drop clothes were just not the same. I was happy to wait until yesterday and now I can start making my curtains for our front door soon.

My next shopping stop was Jo-Ann's.
Since forever I have wanted to buy a certain type of felt (the one I make my 'Heart~Felts" from) and yesterday I bought 2 yard of it and of course thinking ahead, I had brought a 40% off coupon with me that put a smile on my face.

And my last shopping stop was Hobby Lobby.
'Wow!' is the first thing that comes to my mind. The store was huge and of course I found what I needed right away ... a can of spray paint called 'Looking Glass' and again a coupon made me smile again. I am so glad though that I am strong these days. Why? ... Hobby Lobby has already started to display their Christmas stock and oh, my ... there were walls of the most beautiful glass ornaments and a hug display of Christmas trees but like I said, I was strong ... (this time).

These were only a few of the walls and walls of Christmas tree ornaments!

I was just so taken by all the beautiful Christmas things. After spending a few more hours around 24th Ave. we headed back home and I was a happy lady because ...

... because I was able to get everything I needed.

Now I am already planning our next little road trip back there and that will be a new thing again because my husband will have returned to work in Alberta and it will be just my daughters and me and I wonder how it is going to be?! And that something for me to share with you in the future.

I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind.

Have a peaceful and creative day.

  3. The 400-series of highways scare the daylights out of me and we do anything we can to avoid them, so I know how you feel. But - Christmas - already????!!! Really?

  4. Happy to hear that you had a good time in our Great Lakes state. There is nice quilt shop in Port Huron called Sew Elegant with so many bolts of fabric that you need to have plenty of time to look.

  5. Wow, what a trip! How far is it for you to go to Michigan?
First thing I saw at your picture was the lighthouse. I love lighthouses so much.
The christmas ornaments are amazing. You will never find such a huge store in Germany.
I am happy for you, that you get everything you wanted and hope you will show us, what you are going to do with those things.

    Hugs and a nice weekend

  6. I guess I take for granted all the stores available to me. I am so happy that you were able to get what you needed. Both stores are amazing.

I've crossed over into Canada years ago and loved it. We were in Ontario and I remember that all the signs were in French.

  7. Sounds like a fun excursion, Karen. But I hate to think of Christmas stuff being out already. Although, if one is making things for Christmas, that's a good thing.

  8. Isn't it great to have all those US stores so close by? Daughter and I often head down to Fargo to hit Joanne's, Hobby Lobby and even their Micheals... prices are so much lower! Can't believe all the Christmas stuff out already!

  10. My quilter BFF goes across the border a couple of times a year for fabric. Why is it so much cheaper there? I love Jo-ann's fabric but ordering online means all those extra charges. I need drop cloths too, I hope our local store i.e. one ferry ride away, has some decent ones.

  11. Hi Karen! I live in Ft. Gratiot, not far from the mall, Hobby Lobby and Joanne's. I spend a lot of time at those two stores, in fact was at Hobby Lobby last night, and also admiring the hundreds of different ornaments. I had never thought of drop cloths for curtains, looks like I'll be heading to Lowe's, one of my husbands favorite stores. While in Ft. Gratiot next time, be sure to visit Sew Elegant. Wall to wall, ceiling to floor fabrics! Having lived here and in PH all my life, we tend to take the bridge and Canada for granted!
