Lots Of Critter Activity ..

Hello my dear friends,

every day I am sure we are getting a bit closer to Spring arriving. Less and less snow is falling and the water on top of our pool cover isn't freezing up every night anymore.

Another sign to tell that Spring is on it's way are critters.

So far our chipmunk has awoken and is busy in our attic and outside again. Unfortunately we are going to have to do something about the little critter being inside the house walls because of the damage they can cause so I am looking into live-trapping him/her and taking her to the woods down the road in the park.

We have also had other visitors to the backyard at night ... one night is was a young raccoon that woke up a bit early because the temperature is still minus at night time and then two nights ago we had a small young skunk walking around outside just at our dining room window and this critter was so cute!

And last but not least ...

... this couple is visiting us almost every day now since about a week and I just love watching them.

I am sure they are the ducks that were here last spring too.
They just love to swim in the water.

This year they are getting a bit more adventurous...

... especially the girl ~ she is coming real close to the house ...

... and he is never far from her side.

I love having this couple in our backyard but I do have a small concern too. If they decided to nest here the raccoons and neighbourhood cats will be a danger to the nest and ducklings so for that reason I hope they only visit and don't stay even though it would have been so lovely to see their babies.

And this is another reason it is best that the ducks don't nest in our backyard. Before I finished this post a Hawk landed in our maple tree and sat there for a very short time. This is the 3rd time in the past 10 days but unfortunately I haven't been able to catch this on my camera yet.

It was so nice that you stopped by again here at Todolwen and it would be nice if you would again some time in the future!

I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind.

Have a peaceful and creative day,

Karen B.

  1. Karen,
I love to watch the ducks swim around and it is so cute how they follow each other ~ no chance of losing sight of one's mate.
We had sleet and snow here yesterday, so Spring has not arrived yet. It teases us once in a while and then we get another blast of Winter.
    Have a beautiful day.

  2. I had the same thought about the ducks starting a family, As fun as it would be, I'd be scared for them also. Beautiful photo's Karen, spring really is in the air.

  3. Karen, I have been enjoying your blog for quite some time now but have never actually said "hello"! Your work is so lovely and inspiring and it's been so enjoyable following along with the preparations for your daughter's wedding. Your post today prompted me to want to tell you about a little bird couple that is building their next in the wreath on my front door. I still had the winter ivy wreath up and last week the little birds kept coming and sitting on it. I just new it was the same couple from other years and they were letting me know it was time to take the ivy wreath down and put up the one with the sunflowers and twine on it. Sure enough, it wasn't up but one day and they started building their nest! Now each morning I peek from the other side of the glass to see if the eggs have been laid yet! Our God is so good to give us these little blessings and to give us blog friends too!

  5. Karen, I had to laugh when I saw the pictures of the ducks in your pool.
We used to have a pair that regularly visited our pond. Until one day we noticed all our little fish were gone. hahaha!!! After that we had to start scaring them off.
Have a great weekend. hope it warms up soon.
    Hugs Lynn

  6. We have a pair of ducks, just like yours, that have been visiting ever evening for about a week. I hope they don't nest in our yard, either. Sophie and Gracie would nab the ducklings. :-(.

  7. Awwww your ducks are so sweet! Isn't it fun to watch the nature that surrounds are homes? I think spring is on its way - the sun has been here all week long in Michigan - even if the temps are chilly still!
