My First Treasures Of The New Year

Hello my dear friends,

needing a bit of retail therapy after a very stressful day last week, I headed out to check out all of my little charity stores and thrift shops that I haven't been to in some time and I am happy to say that it was a successful trip and I actually felt a bit better upon arriving at home again. OK, I was really happy actually!

Not only did I find a few new tarnished pieces to create with but I also found a 'huge' treasure again which I will show you a bit further down.

I am sure this piece is going to end up turning into a lovely pincushion.

And this was my neatest find ...

a large spool of vintage lace ...

... in a pale shade of coffee cream color I would say and ...

... it is quite wide lace too - about 8 inches wide.

Now I just have to get myself to start creating with all my newest treasures.

And last but not least ...

... an update on our basement.

It has been a a sort of rocky road with bumps at times which was much longer than we thought it would be but now the way is slowly smoothing out and it is looking very nice. My stress levels at times were for sure too high due to worry, money and frustration and I am sure a few more reasons. One thing I have to keep in mind that everybody makes mistakes - even I do.

I must say though one of the main things I really do like about our contractor himself is he was more than willing to make things right if his workers did something the way is shouldn't be. There was no debating about it, he always said 'Let me make it right' and that's what he did and in the end even more!!

Do I think I could have done with a bit less stress ~ definitely!! But all in all things are good and that's what counts. By the look of it we are almost there too. Another day or so and our contractor is done and I can start to work on the stairs. The floor are going to have to wait a little longer because my husband is very busy with work but once we are done finally done I will share photos of the finished basement nice and new.

Will I do another renovation in the near future ~ absolutely not .. I think. I need to have a little time to recover first and then see what needs doing next in our house but for now little projects are more to my liking.

It would be nice if you were to take a moment and visit me again soon here at Todolwen and see what I have been up to!

I hope you are well and life is treating you kind my dear friends.

Have a peaceful and creative day,

Karen B.

  3. Your little treasures are wonderful... but oh my goodness the lace!!! I found a couple of spools not long ago and thought I had something pretty special.. only mine were about 1/2" wide!! You obviously have thrift and charity shops the likes of which are NOT here in my town. Lucky you. SOOO glad to know the basement project is almost at an end. Look forward to pictures.

  5. You really hit the jackpot with your finds - the first two remind me of Hallowe'en in a way, especially the one you will turn into a pin-cushion... it almost looks like a little cauldron to me! It will make the most adorable pincushion and you were so lucky to find it!
The lace is the icing on top.... so glad for you that the renovation is coming into a new phase and you can now turn your head to other things a little.
