Make Or Break ~ Literaly

Hello my dear friends,

I sometimes just can't help myself not to buy something ... like yesterday. I was out doing my out~of~house chores and decided to stop at one of our thrift stores and of course there was one thing that I just  had to buy. The reason for me buying it was that 'It was only $3.99!' I was saying to myself and it is a challenge to myself as well. Also on top of that, these things are expensive to buy and finding vintage/antique ones is getting harder all the time.

What did I buy?

 ... this cloche.

Why is it a challenge? ... because I don't really like it the way it looks.

I am sure some of you love this piece just they way it is but unfortunately I don't. I would prefer it much more if it had been plain glass without anything decor on it at all.

What do I hope for? ... that I will find a way to get the transfers off the glass without damaging or breaking the cloche.

I am not planning on working on this just yet, maybe this Spring time when it is a bit warmer and I will for sure get you up to date what happened next with this.

I hope you are well and live is treating you kind my dear friends.

Have a peaceful and creative day,

Karen B.

  2. Before I even finished reading your post I immediately invisioned you making one of your projects using the pictures on the glass to create a 3D effect. Maybe one of your nursery rhyme or a fairytale creations. If you do take off the paintings let us know how you did it. Happy creating. Pam

  3. It is pretty but like you I would prefer it plain. I wonder if you can remove with paint stripper or nail varnish remover - if you could get it cleaned off you can make some lovely effects using tubes of glass paint that are pretty but not overpowering. I had a lovely time a few years back painting wine glasses in this way (all smashed I'm afraid as I am very clumsy!). Betty

  4. Oh yes you had to buy this and I am certain you will be able to strip it of all the distractions on the glass. Creative Hearts are Happy Hearts...

  5. Ha! I thought you were going to say you didn't need to buy it because you already had more than enough cloches! That's what my husband would have told me.. but there's no way I woulda passed up that price. Mixed feelings on the embellishements, all my cloches are clear.
I'm sure you'll work magic one way or another.

  6. I have had great success removing images from glass by simply using fingernail polish remover on a cottonball. If the regular polish remover doesn't work then try one that is all acetone like they use to remove acrylic nails. It's very simple and just like removing nail polish. Best of luck to you!

  7. Love all your creation and I'm sure this cloche will be no exception. Acetone would be my first try at cleaning it up. You can usually find it at the hardware and its fairly inexpensive. I use it in my studio all the time.
