I was gifted a poinsettia by my lovely neighbour Katherine two Christmases ago.
It was such a beautiful plant but after 6 or 7 months all of the sudden it lost all of it's flowers. Shortly after that all it's leaves too and it almost died. It took me some time to get it back to growing again but it has been doing so steadily since then.
I was busy in my studio a few days ago, when I turned around and saw this ...
... a new tiny flower is growing!
I am so over the moon about this!
I had hoped that it would have had a flower around Christmas time but it never happened. The poinsettia is still a little rough around the edges but hopefully that will get better soon too.
I love it when it's the little things like this. that make me happy and I am so grateful for it.

ReplyDeleteHi there.... what you are actually seeing is not the flower but the leaves turning red... the actually flower will be the little centers...To get it to turn red for Christmas you would have had to force it by giving it so many hours of darkness compared to light....by putting it in a dark closet etc... thats how they manipulate the ones at the store for Christmas....otherwise its natural 'bloom' time is the Spring same with the amaryllis... You are a patient soul, ya know that? I've had beautiful poinsettia plants in the past and the same things have happened to mine. I just threw it away ... and now I'm sad.

ReplyDeleteI don't know of anyone who has ever brought one back to flower again. My mother, who had a very green thumb, tried every single year and had no success. You must have a magic touch!
