An Old Wool Blanket ..

Hello my dear friends,

it must be a several months now since I found an old pure wool blanket at a charity store. It was a great shape and I loved the color and I had been looking for something like this for some time now so I bought it with all the best intentions of making something lovely out of it.

I hate to say but after buying it, it stayed forgotten in the trunk of my car for what seems forever and I didn't really take any notice of it. Then when I had to take some garden waste to the dump I finally took it out and it ended up in my laundry room cupboard where it sat for weeks again ... just waiting for anything to happen with it. Finally I decided to 'felt' it in the wash machine and it turned out really nice ( unfortunately I didn't take any photos before the felting). It has a really neat look now! But instead of working on it further I again put it into my studio cupboard and there it sat again waiting for me to do something with it.

It is such a lovely piece in a very lovely color and now all I need to do is think of what I can create out of it. I already have a few ideas flouting around my head ... like a Christmas stocking, maybe a pincushion, a large "Heart~Felt" and then there is that beautiful Pottery Barn poinsettia pillow ...

... that I found on the internet when I typed in 'felted poinsettia'. I have seen so many remakes of this pillow and I thought I would love to try and make my own version of it hopefully using some of this old felted blanket.

What ever it is that I decide to turn this lovely piece into I will of course share with you lovely bloggers. Would you believe me when I say I can start to work with this old wool blanket?!

As always I have more than one creation on the worktable at any one time and with Christmas on it's way, my table is full of all sorts of things.

So ... do visit me here at Todolwen soon again and see what I have been up to.

Until then ...

I hope you are well and life is treating you kind.

Have a peaceful and creative day,

Karen B.

  2. Oh my goodness Karen...I can not wait to see what you do with your blanket. That pillow really is a cute idea. I too move things from place to place. As I read about your blanket, I was thinking how each time you put it somewhere, it was kind of calling your name. I wonder if all my treasures do that. LOL!

  5. I, also, always have several projects (in different stages of completion) on the go and any one time. I chalk it up to being a Gemini, lol. Lately I have taken up spinning (with a drop spindle) and also felting. Managed to score a couple of 100% virgin wool sweaters which I felted and will 'eventually' be turned into pillows.

Can't wait to see what you do with yours. Now I know what my Nana meant by "idle hands are the devil's workshop".
