when I talk about a new nest today, I am not talking about anything I have created but of what is happening in the front of our home.
Remember these two lovelies?
These two love birds were visiting our backyard for the past weeks and then a few days ago ...
... I saw one of them spending a lot of time on our front lawn, picking up bits and pieces of dried grass and flowers.
They both suddenly seemed to have taken a liking to our blue spruce tree ...
... which is right outside of our front door and porch ...
... and spend a lot of time sitting in it.
I was getting a little excited and hoping they were maybe thinking of nesting there.
Watching them both spending more and more time ...
... together in the blue spruce ...
... settling down, was a good sign.
The next day ...
... it looked like this one was guarding an opening in the tree.
Peeking inside from time to time to make sure ...
... she was still there and safe.
Every other day, I very carefully peek inside the tree from a safe distance so I don't scare her and she is still there ... deep inside the blue needles, hiding and nesting. Now I will just have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks and maybe this little story might just have a happy ending!
I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind.
Have a peaceful and creative day.
What beautiful birds and wonderful for them to choose to build their nest right in front of your house.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing about their progress.
Karen,
ReplyDeleteYou need to give this sweet couple names. They are adorable and how sweet they want to start a family in your spruce. Looking forward to seeing what happens.

Awwww so sweet. Every year I always manage to have a dove nest in my hanging basket near the front. This year it's a robin, who's so skittish. When the doves nest we can come and go as we please and they're fine with that.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful birds !! I love your pictures ! Beautiful ! Looking forward to the updates !

Oh, I hope it does indeed have a happy ending... what beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteTwo days ago I noticed a pair of hummingbirds behaving very oddly near our large cedar hedge. One flew away, but the other seemed to have stayed in the hedge and I as walked over to it I could hear the bird inside... yesterday I could hear and see and lot going on in the same area, with two hummingbirds coming and going - I hope my story will also have a happy ending!
Mourning doves are such sweet birds and lucky you to have them take up housekeeping so close by. We have them visiting our feeders all year round and they often perch on my sewing room window sill. It's a great feeling to look up from my sewing and see one peeping in the window at me.
