'Being Inspired' ~ Perfect In Almost Every Way ..

Hello my dear friends,

my little flowers are now finished and like I said in my last post, they now need a little company in the shape of small leaves that will 'grow' with them.

I knew exactly what I wanted the leaves to look like, I just had to find the right fabric to make them from and this time it was going to be a little challenging. The color of the fabric had to be just right and especially the texture too and I didn't want to budge from the picture in my mind, not one tiny bit.

I started to look in second hand stores for something like a wool jacket or something similar but I just couldn't not find anything that was right. After looking for about a week, I came across one of our local fabric stores that was closing it's doors for good. That is where I then went to search for the perfect fabric and ... I found it! It was this bright moss green woolen fabric that was full of texture and perfect in almost every way.

The leaves I wanted to make had to be smaller ones but the fabric as it was, once cut would fray on all of the edges which wasn't a good thing. Sewing around the edges wasn't the look I wanted at all, so I had to come up with an idea of how to solve my little problem. The answer was hot water, a few drops of dish detergent and lots of elbow grease. I chose to felt the fabric in hoping it wouldn't fray once cut. Can you believe it? ... $54 the meter and I stick it in a sink of hot water but it worked!

A few hours later and my first leaves were in the works.

I finished the last ones yesterday and they too are now growing on thin wire stems just like the little violets I made.

I am so happy with the fabric I choose to use to make them. The next step is to make my little woolly leaves and my little bold violets 'grow' together and that is something I will be sharing with all of you in a future post.

And last but not least ...

... I just had to share this little guy.

He was sitting outside the kitchen window this morning eating a piece of fresh apple I had thrown out for the critters that visit our garden. Winter has return yet again to Ontario. We had a storm yesterday and last night again with about 6 inches of new snow. I don't really mind it at all. Clearing snow gives me exercise outside and afterwards I love sitting down with a hot cup of tea and doing something creative.

Thank you for taking the time to visit me here at Todolwen today. It is always so nice when you do.

I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind.

Have a peaceful and creative day.
