I Love Creative Therapy!

Hello my dear friends,

I have had a lovely time creating something new yesterday after not having a single creative thought in almost weeks now and I feel great!! I felt so relaxed and peaceful which working with all sorts of little treasures ~ just what I needed after my not so good weekend.

Don't get me wrong I did manage to do a lot of work in our back yard as well and I am happy that I didn't give up but being creative is the best and what is my most favourite item to create?

... Pincushions!!

I haven't made any for such a long time and it was just the right "therapy" I needed  ~ making those lovely little things and I must say I am very happy with the result of my work.

If you didn't see my post yesterday, these are the little treasures I decided to work with ...

... and these are my finished creations!

The first pincushion ...

My daughter Ashleigh came up with the idea of making the pincushion this way. I am so happy she told me about it because I wanted to do it differently and I know it wouldn't have looked this beautiful.
Thank you Sweetheart for your creative input!

Less is more in this case for sure.

The detail on the shaker top is so delicate and pretty ~ I just love it.

This is just to show you the size of this pincushion.

The second pincushion ...

This is the little tattered jar lid.

I used bits of old doilies and antique buttons to embellish this one ...

...  and the pincushion itself is made from brown velvet.

The third and last pincushion for today ...

... is made from old lace and stained muslin.

Again old trinkets and a antique button give this piece it's charm.

All the pincushions have been filled with bird gravel. I know that some crafters use crushed walnut shells but I only had this to hand and it's great for keeping your needles nice and sharp.

Creating ~ the art to take something old and to give it a new life. This is how I created my blog name
~ Todolwen ~ old to new!

I am really happy I could share my newest creations with all you lovely bloggers today and I hope that it won't be too long before I can write my next post again.

I hope you are all well.

Have a peaceful and creative day,

Karen B.

  20. I've found you through Pinterest....just now! I'm always late, :-)
I am a folk artist...Paints & brushes are my usual tools, but I pick up needle & thread to be able to play ...I mean work...on the couch. Sometimes, I just need a change to come up with other things new.
LOVE your pin cushions! I use old, yummy bits to make my own, and you have nudged my creativity!
I smiled at your use of Toonies to show the size. A Canadian! And, from Ontario! (me too) Thanks for sharing.

  28. Hello!! I read somewhere that fine 0000 steel wool is great for pincushion filling, sharpens your needles/pins, etc. Sounds okay to me, as long as it didn't get wet tho.

  29. I have heard that too. There are all sorts that you can use to fill a pincushion/needle sharpener. It all depends on what you like and what you can get hold of.
    Hugs.
