With Summer Time In Mind ...

Hello my dear friends,

I can't believe it's been over a month already since I have shared anything with all of you here on Todolwen. Life has just been busy lately and unfortunately the Winter blues has also gotten hold of me a little too.

I am not sure how I actually came up with my newest idea. I was looking for something in my studio and my thoughts were with summertime, warm sunshine and luscious green grass when I came across this ...

... white scrubby sparkle yarn that is for crocheting scrubby cloths for your dishes.

I had bought it a year or even longer ago and it just sat in my yarn box since then. My plan was, when I bought it, to crochet snowflake scrubbies but for some reason I never got to it. So there I was with this yarn in my hand, thinking of what I could make from it and then it came to me!

Like I said, I was thinking of summertime and everything that goes with it and the first step to make my idea was to make some pompoms from the scrubby yarn. Of course I couldn't just make one or two to try things out, I made many! My busy fingers didn't want to stop until my idea turned into a real thing and that is what I am sharing with all of  you today. It takes me back to when my girls were little and it was summer time.

And this is what I made from that scrubby yarn ...

... dandelion "blowy" flowers.

The leaves are made from wire and sari silk ribbon and are very basic and also even tatty I would say but that is what makes them go so well with the white fluffy blooms in my eyes.

Like I said, I did get carried away a little and just had to make lots of them. Now they are living in an old glass on my table in my studio and I love seeing them every time I'm in that room.

I love the way these neat summer "flowers" have turned out and that is why I have also made some small bundles of them for my Etsy shop.

And this is what you will get ...

... a small bundle of dandelion "blowy" flowers.

Each bundle is made up from 11 flowers, in a few different lengths and three leaves. Each bundle is wrapped in recycled brown paper and tied off with a strand of cream colored sari silk ribbon.

Unwrapped each bundle is tied together with some white twine.

These little summer flowers are just so delightful and look so lovely sitting in an old canning jar on a table or windowsill and I find that they are especially neat if you like farmhouse decor. It's almost like you had gone outside into your garden and just picked a few of them from your lawn.

I hope you have enjoyed my newest creation as much as I have loved making them and I already have another new creation to share with you in a few days. This time it is all about spring.

If you are interested in on of my little bundles of blowy flowers, why not pop over to my Etsy shop and take a look at them. As of right now I have 4 bundles ready.

It was so nice of you to take the time to visit me here at Todolwen and I hope you have enjoyed your short stay. Maybe you will come back sometime again?

I hope you are well my dear friends and that life is treating you kind.

Have a peaceful and creative day.

  2. Oh my, what a lovely idea. Aside from your nests, these have to be my favorite thing you've made.

But you've already sold out! Please make some more so I can have some.

  3. These are so sweet and bring us back to lazy summer childhood days. Who could resist the magic of blowing the dandelion fluff and watching it dance on a gentle breeze? At 61 I still can't resist :-)
