I just wanted to make you all aware of a new e-mail scam that is going around.
I went to check my e-mails just a moment ago and there was one from '2015 Paypal support'.
In this e-mail I was thank for my payment of $49.99 to Sally Doug for a Mobile tune up. Further down it read that if I didn't authorize this charge, I should click onto the below to dispute this payment and get a full refund.
Wait a minute! ... Mobil tune up?! ... Nope, didn't do that.
And this is now important to all of you with Paypal accounts ... DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK!! This e-mail is not from Paypal! I didn't click on the link but instead I opened a new window and checked my paypal account there and nothing wa wrong. No payment was made to that person or in that amount. It is a scam. Once you click onto that link and give them your information, that is when they get hold of your money.
I called Paypal support right away. They told me that they didn't send the e-mail and I was told to forward it to them so that their fraud department could check into this. The e-mail is a fraudulent one to get your information and your money.
If this should happen to you, don't click on anything else but the 'forward' button and sent it to this e-mail address .... spoof@paypal.com and then delete the e-mail.
Beware and be safe!
I hope you are well my dear friends and life is treating you kind.
Have a peaceful and creative day.
thanks so much for the heads up :)
ReplyDeleteUgh, this just happened to me, but I did exactly what you did as well! Gotta love scammers!.
ReplyDeleteI just got the same email, and followed basically the same steps you outlined, thanks for posting this right away, good to know it's not only me.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this!!!
ReplyDeleteI get quite a lot of scam PayPal emails, which is really annoying. I usually forward them to PayPal's spoof email department :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for making all of us aware. You ROCK.

Thank-you for posting this information, I check my PayPal account often, I sell and buy, I have to make sure nothing is amiss.
ReplyDeleteMany people do not realize how easy it is to have money taken from them by these conartists.
Blessings
Catherine
I got one too today. When forwarding to spoof@paypal.com, forward as attachment. That way Paypal will get the full header that is not normally visible.

ReplyDeleteAlways someone trying to steal from those who work to earn honestly. Thanks for the warning.
ReplyDeleteI called paypal.ca and they had a flood of calls about this. There are ROTTEN people out there.
ReplyDeletePaypal said the are working on it very intently.....
Glad you weren't caught, Karen. I forward at least 5-10 of these each week to Paypal and have been doing so for about two years now. I never click on any Paypal email but log into my account via my web browser. Crooks and scammers are getting too good at this stuff and we must be just as up to date with our security savvi-ness.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I got one last week too. Such a waste of time having to verify and confirm it didn't actually take place. I keep thinking these scammers could be doing so much more to help the world instead of trying to take advantage of folks. Have also forwarded to PayPal. Appreciate you posting.
ReplyDeleteI got this one the day after I read your post, so that you so much for the heads up. I wouldn't have opened it anyway because I'm automatically suspicious of anything like this.
ReplyDeleteMy wife has been getting them, and she doesn't even have a PayPal account.
